KDK Farm
History of
Our Farm
Our family farm is located in the country by the town of Strawn,
Illinois. When we first
started gardening, years ago, we were only producing food enough for
ourselves. As our family
grew, so did our garden!
It would seem that there were always a few products that we’d have too
much in and would have to find ways to use it or give it away so it
didn’t go to waste. When
becoming a part of Stewards of the Land, LLC we started planting a much
bigger garden. We currently
have two gardens. One is
for small fruits and the other for vegetables.
Our whole family,
Kevin, Denise, Kyrstin, Brooke, Stuart, Blake, Shea & Damaris
are involved in our operation.
The garden planning and seed ordering are completed
by Kevin & Denise.
The indoor seed starting and transplanting
is done by Kyrstin, Brooke, & Denise.
Everyone is involved with the spring ground
prep and planting/transplanting.
The kids and Denise do most of the daily
maintenance, watering and harvesting.
Kyrstin usually does the bulk of the
delivering of the produce.
Produce We Have Grown
We’ve grown items like:
spinach, peas, snow peas, sugar snap peas, radishes, onions,
green beans, squash, potatoes, napa cabbage, cabbage, beets, kohlrabi,
broccoli, brussel sprouts, turnips, Indian corn, pumpkins, garlic,
tomatillos, cantaloupe, strawberries,& raspberries and a variety of
lettuce, tomatoes, herbs, gourds and peppers.
Since we live in the country and have a large family, gardening has just
been a way of life. We feel it is important to teach our children a good
work ethic and to experience the fulfillment of a job well done.
We enjoy working together as a family and have had numerous “good talks”
in the garden patch! The
rest of our mission is to provide the healthi-est and highest quality
produce that we can.
